Purpose: This study was carried out to introduce an intervention of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and to analyze national and foreign studies addressing it.
Methods: The theoretical background and history of EMDR was researched through a book of Dr. Shapiro and a search of foreign studies using ¡¯EMDR¡¯, ¡¯EMD¡¯ and ¡¯eye movement desensitization and reprocessing¡¯ as a search word in MEDLINE, PUBMED, and CINAHL.
Results: EMDR is an intervention widely used in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A total of 147 foreign studies were searched from 1990 to July 2009, but only 10 Korean studies were searched. EMDR continues to be studied actively in the field of nursing, medicine, and psychology in foreign countries and Korea.
Conclusion: This study was intended to introduce a new EMDR as a nursing intervention to national psychiatric nurses and help in the development of professional and personal nursing interventions.
